Matt Bellamy – MUSE

This is not necessarily a great picture nor was it necessarily a great gig to photograph. The image was taken while Muse was performing on a mobile stage rig at the Jacques Cartier Pier in Montreal. It was an outdoor concert and, prior to the concert starting, the heavens opened up letting all standing there and waiting know who was in charge. While the down pour was brief, it was relentless.
After a short delay, the concert started. The performance was almost equally as intense as was the thunderstorm that had preceded it.
The gig was a difficult one to photograph. While all the stage lighting was there as was the action, it was singularly difficult to find those defining moments.
Bellamy was as mercurial as ever and, like trying to pick up a drop of mercury from a rocking and jiving petri dish, so it was like trying to pick that moment, a defining moment to say, “OK, I’ve got it”.
Didn’t quite get there. In one moment he was right up front and at the edge of the stage. In the next he would disappear into the dark recesses to the rear of the stage. In another moment he was facing this way and, in the next, pirouetting around and facing somewhere else. This image and others in the gallery are a record of the gig.
The photo featured in this blog post is part of a collection of images from this gig. In due course we’ll add an album featuring these photos.
UPDATE – [191218]: We’ve just added a collection of photos from this concert to the photo archive. They can be found here in this photo gallery – Muse in Montreal.
