Where in the world is this?

For a city that seems to take some pride, may be misplaced pride, of being in any number of Top 10 lists for being one of the most expensive cities to live in, where would you find a scene such as this?
Since this scene is decidedly Asian, this would leave out most European and North American cities. So, where in Asia is this?
Well, it’s not Tokyo – not self-respecting enough. It’s not Singapore – not clean enough. This sort of leaves Hong Kong, which it is.
This little “dai pai dong” or local street eatery is located in a back alley just off Time Square in Hong Kong’s Causeway Bay district. Typically they serve up noodles – instant and otherwise – with some sort soup base, maybe a fried egg thrown on top and something to drink – hot or cold – along side and that’s just about it.
Causeway Bay is one of Hong Kong’s premiere shopping districts. It also ranks as one of the most expensive pieces of real estate in the world. Where this dai pai dong is located – in an alley a little way off the centre of this district – is a place where the rent is relatively cheap and where the “overheads” are kept low. This little place may not define fine dining in Hong Kong but it does define a way of life that is typical to Hong Kong.
Enjoy. Comments and queries are welcome…
